Many of the people out there suffer from acne at least at one point in their lives. For most of the people out there, acne does not come in very severe forms and it goes away almost completely once the teenage years are over. For a lot of other people though, acne remains an issue throughout their lifetime and it requires serious acne treatment that involves regular visits to cosmetologists, dermatologists and laser treatment professionals.
One of the things that aggravate acne is the fact that many of the people out there just it. Because it is so commonly spread and because it has been out there for quite a while now, there are a lot of rumors and misconceptions going around about it. Understanding the very causes that lead to the development of acne can help you with your acne treatment and it can help you prevent acne bursts as much as possible.
One of the main reasons acne is formed is because there is an imbalance in the way the body produces hormones. Androgens, testosterone and other hormones are produced in excess which consequently makes the skin oilier than the usual by making it secret more sebum. When this situation meets bacteria and skin follicles that have developed abnormally, acne is formed.
Blackheads are formed when the sebum is pushed towards the surface and it becomes brown or black by oxidizing. At the same time, whiteheads are formed when the acne itself is formed right underneath the skin. This kind of acne requires the intervention of a dermatologist who will be able to squeeze the whiteheads out without inflaming the area and in completely safe circumstances.
Furthermore, when the pus formed in as a combination of bacteria and sebum is pushed forward, the common pimples appear. It is of the highest importance that you never squeeze them out (and much less without having disinfected your hands and your face beforehand). Otherwise, you risk harming your skin even more than it is already harmed. Although you may get rid of the redness for the moment, the pimple will stick to your face for much longer if you do not leave it alone. Furthermore, the bacteria in the pus the pimple contains can spread all over the surrounding area, infesting it and leading to even more pimples to appear. Last, but not least, not leaving a pimple alone can lead to scarring and in many cases, that is something you will not be able to get rid off but through laser treatments.
